KARACHI, Pakistan – Pakistani intelligence officials say a shootout in the southern port city of Karachi has killed two suspected al-Qaida members and an intelligence officer.
Three intel officials told The Associated Press that the firefight occurred on Monday.
They say Pakistani officers were raiding a residential apartment following tips about the suspects' presence there. The officials identified the slain officer as Maj. Mohammad Sajjad and said he was leading the raid.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to reporters.
They did not disclose the nationality of the slain suspects but said they were believed linked to a recent attack on bus that killed over 50 Shiite Muslims in Karachi. Pakistani police had suspected Islamic State-linked militants were involved in that attack.
