SHANGHAI – Foreign companies are suspending operations around the Tianjin port as officials scramble to contain the toxic fallout of last week's deadly chemical explosions.
Toyota says it has suspended three production lines, which account for over half its China capacity, through Wednesday.
Panasonic kept its Tianjin office closed Monday because of safety concerns. The company says it doesn't know whether it will reopen Tuesday.
U.S. farm equipment maker Deer & Co. has reportedly suspended operations at its Tianjin factory. Logistics company Singamas Container Holdings has suspended operations at the site.
Thousands of Volkswagen, Toyota, Hyundai and Renault cars, mostly pricey imports, were also decimated in Wednesday's blasts.
The Tianjin Maritime Bureau says 85 ships were delayed or canceled but that port traffic is now at normal levels.
