Five people -- including an 8-month old baby -- are safe after a small plane crashed in the Bahamas Monday night.
The Bahamian government said the five were rescued by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force after their single engine Cessna went down about 15 miles southeast of Nassau. A government statement Tuesday reported that the passengers were examined at a hospital in Nassau.
According to Reuters, there were no injuries reported.
All five are from the Bahamas. Their plane had taken off from Crooked Island.
Glenys Hanna-Martin, the Bahamas minister of transport and aviation, told Reuters that the plane had engine trouble.
A U.S. Coast Guard air crew was called in to help with the search and spotted the five people floating on a life raft about 9 miles off Nassau.
The passengers spent several hours in the raft.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
