Moroccan authorities arrest, expel 2 French topless activists protesting treatment of gays

Published June 02, 2015

Moroccan authorities arrested and then expelled two French activists for appearing topless at a historic site in the capital protesting the treatment of gays.

The Interior Ministry issued a statement Tuesday saying the French citizens had been expelled and were banned from the country after "filming an obscene sequence" offensive to Moroccan society.

The women appeared at the Tour Hassan site in Rabat which features a half-built minaret from the 12th century and the tomb of King Mohammed V, and stripped to their waists before kissing.

Their naked torsos were emblazoned with "in gay we trust."
