Rescue workers in Colombia are searching for 15 gold miners who are missing and feared dead after a shaft flooded.

Authorities say the flood Wednesday was likely triggered by a power outage or an explosion deep inside the mine, which is in the northwest province of Caldas.

The mine's owner, Leonardo Mejia, told The Associated Press that several miners managed to escape when they realized something had gone wrong. He said he fears the 15 missing miners are all dead.

Mining accidents are common in Colombia.
