Civil defense authorities in Saudi Arabia say that four construction workers were killed when a building they were working on collapsed on a university campus.

A civil defense statement says at least four other workers were injured in the collapse, which took place Monday on the campus of al-Qassim University in the province of the same name. It says some 50 workers were at the site at the time, without elaborating on their status.

The governor of al-Qassim, Prince Faisal bin Meshaal, visited the collapsed building in the provincial capital, Buraydah. Buraydah is about 225 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh.

The statement did not disclose the nationality of dead construction workers. Most of the kingdom's laborers hail from South Asian countries like Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
