CAIRO – An Egyptian court has acquitted ousted President Hosni Mubarak's top security official of corruption charges.
The verdict handed down by Giza Criminal Court on Thursday cleared former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly of all pending charges. He was expected to be released soon.
El-Adly oversaw Egypt's notorious police, known for its abuses and human rights violations.
The case is linked to his years in power during which he was accused of illegally amassing 181 million Egyptian pounds (25 million dollars). He was acquitted of other corruption charges in earlier trials.
El-Adly was also acquitted last year of killing protesters during the 2011 popular uprising that forced Mubarak to step down.
