Iraqi officials say a bombing in Baghdad and an explosion in a nearby town killed seven people.

Police officials say a bomb struck near an out-door market in Madian town, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of the Iraqi capital on Friday afternoon, killing four and wounding seven.

Later in the day, a bomb exploded near an ice cream shop in Baghdad's western district of Ghazaliyah, killing three people and wounding nine.

Medics in nearby hospitals confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, which came as Iraqi forces and Shiite militias are fighting to retake the Sunni city of Tikrit form Islamic State militants.
