An American woman and a Canadian man accused of plotting to open fire in a Halifax shopping mall will return to court on April 10 to set a date for a preliminary hearing.

Police say they foiled the alleged plot by three suspects to mark Valentine's Day by killing as many people as possible at the Halifax Shopping Center in Nova Scotia — and then committing suicide.

Lindsay Kanittha Souvannarath, 23, of Geneva, Illinois, and Randall Steven Shepherd, 20, of Halifax, were charged last month with conspiracy to commit murder. They made a brief court appearance Friday.

The third suspect fatally shot himself, a senior police official has told The Associated Press.
