Authorities in Belgium say three individuals that could have possible links to terror networks have been detained.

A judicial official said Tuesday that authorities from western Kortijk were looking into the background of the three but refused to comment further. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Belgium security officials say they averted a major terror attack with a preventive raid earlier this month. Two suspects were killed during the operation and seven men linked to the case are detained.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Tuesday's detentions were linked to that case.

In France, security forces on Tuesday raided a small town in the south that is known as a center for the jihadi recruiting networks.
