Independent Crimean television station ATR has been raided by armed security officials, who told employees they were looking for archival footage of an anti-Russia protest last year.

In an emotional video posted on YouTube, deputy director Liliya Budzhurova said that armed officials from Russia's Investigative Committee and Center for Counterterrorism had appeared at the station early Monday, demanding footage of the February 2014 protest and effectively shutting down the channel's operations.

ATR, which was established as the first-ever channel dedicated to the native Crimean Tatar population, was one of the last independent media outlets left after Russia's takeover of the Black Sea peninsula in March.

Budzhurova said it was not yet clear whether the channel would be permanently shut down.
