Tunisia's Islamists to vote against new minority govt in upcoming confidence vote

TUNIS, Tunisia – Tunisia's powerful Islamist party has said that it won't back the country's new coalition government in an upcoming confidence vote.

The nationalist Nida Tunis party defeated the Islamist Ennahda Party in parliamentary elections in October and on Friday presented its new coalition government.

The coalition, however, includes only one other party and together they hold only 102 seats, less than half of the 217-seat assembly.

The left-wing Popular Front party has also said it will go against the new government in a vote set for Tuesday.

Members of Nida Tunis also told The Associated Press Sunday they weren't pleased with the coalition or the Cabinet chosen.

Tunisians overthrew their authoritarian president in 2011 and are slowly building a democracy.
