A Kenyan police official says fingerprints recently retrieved from a body found in a river do not match those of a man lawyers say is a witness in the crimes against humanity trial of Kenya's Deputy President.

John Kariuki, a criminal investigations officer, said Wednesday the fingerprints belong to Yusuf Hussein, and not Meshack Yebei, the missing witness in the trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. Yebei's family had positively identified the body.

Deputy President William Ruto's lawyer Karim Khan has said Yebei, who went missing on Dec 28., was a defense witness in the trial. Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Sang are on trial for crimes against humanity for the 2007-08 postelection violence that killed more than 1,000 people.
