“All I want to do is ask her if I can give her a hug,” an emotional Greg Allen said Wednesday afternoon during the press conference providing details of the rescue, near Mexico City, of his now 17-year-old daughter Sabrina Allen.
Hours earlier he had released a statement quoted in the Mexican press, saying: “Our entire family would like to thank the researchers who made this possible. Our prayers are with the Mexican federal policeman was injured.”
Twelve years ago, Sabrina had been kidnapped by her mother, who had lost custody of her daughter. Greg Allen said he never stopped trying to find his daughter, not for one minute.
In the time since, Allen remarried and fathered three more girls.
“I want to see her again. She needs to know she has a family that loves her. I can't just give up on her," said Greg Allen over a year ago in an interview with MyFox7 in Austin.
According to Mexican newspaper Excelsior, mother and daughter were spotted back in 2003 in the Mexican capital using the names Blanca Aurora Fabian Uribe and Adriana Fabian Uribe.
The alleged kidnapper, 44-year-old Dara Llorens, is now in custody and was booked into Travis County jail about 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the Austin-American Statesman is reporting. Both had been flown into Houston Tuesday evening.
Llorens has been charged with aggravated kidnapping with a bail set at $300,000.
Sources close to the case said the girl has been transferred to an undisclosed location where she is undergoing medical evaluations.
