The son of Zambian President Michael Sata says his father is "well" following reports that he was treated by doctors in New York, where he failed to give a scheduled address at the United Nations.
Mulenga Sata, mayor of the Zambian capital of Lusaka, said he spoke Friday morning to the 77-year-old president, who has struggled with health problems and has made few public appearances in recent months.
Michael Sata had flown to New York from Lusaka to attend the annual gathering of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly. He did not deliver a planned address to the 193-member world body on Wednesday.
Police in New York say Sata was treated in his New York hotel room by doctors but was not hospitalized.
