Suicide bombing kills at least 7 at checkpoint in southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD – Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber has rammed a car packed with explosives into a checkpoint in southern Baghdad, killing at least seven people, including four policemen.

A police official says the attack took place Saturday morning in the Shiite neighborhood of Abu Dashir, and that another 16 people were wounded in the blast.

A medical official confirmed the casualty figures.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.
