Early quick count results showed Joko "Jokowi" Widodo ahead in Indonesia's hotly contested presidential election with more than 80 percent of the votes tallied.

Widodo, the governor of Jakarta, was ahead by about 52 percent, while Prabowo Subianto had about 48 percent of the vote, according to most credible quick count surveys.

The unofficial results of Wednesday's elections are considered reliable and a good indicator of what the official results will show when they are announced in about two weeks.
