World Cup: Brazil denies entry to 32 suspected Argentine hooligans

SAO PAULO – The Brazilian government says it has blocked 32 suspected members of Argentina's infamous hooligan gangs from entering the country during the first 12 days of the World Cup.

It says two other members of the groups known in Spanish as "Barras Bravas" were identified after entering Brazil and were ordered to leave within 72 hours.

Brazil's federal government said Tuesday that it has been able to keep out the hooligans with violent histories through cooperation with neighboring Argentina, which provided a list of 2,000 members of the groups.

Eighteen suspected hooligans who were barred entry arrived by air and 14 by land.

Federal police say they now worry that 90 percent of the Argentines traveling to Porto Alegre for their country's game with Nigeria on Wednesday don't have tickets.
