A group that runs African wildlife parks says a suspected poacher has killed a ranger in charge of law enforcement at a park in Zambia.

The non-profit African Parks group said Monday that Dexter Chilunda was shot in the chest after investigating reports of gunshots in Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia.

African Parks says Chilunda was killed Friday, and that police and park rangers followed tracks leading from the site of the shooting and were pursuing leads they hoped would bring them to the culprit. A reward of nearly $10,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
