Exit polls in Sweden show feminist party entering European Parliament for the first time

STOCKHOLM – Exit polls by Sweden's public broadcaster SVT shows the country's Feminist Initiative Party entering the European Parliament for the first time.

Poll results from SVT Sunday suggested 7 percent of Swedes back the feminist party, which wants to boost the rights of women and minorities in the European Union. The party has presented itself as counterweight to EU right-wing movements with the slogan "Replace the racists with feminists!"

The poll showed far-right Sweden democrats with 7 percent support compared to 3.3 percent in 2009.

The Green Party surged to 17. 1 percent from 11 percent in 2009, possibly surpassing the ruling Moderate Party as the second most popular Swedish party after the Social Democrats.

SVT surveyed 8,000 voters outside polling stations and gave no margin of error.
