Lawyer says Indian court drops weapons charge against NYPD officer arrested in India

A lawyer representing a New York City police officer detained in India says a New Delhi court has dropped a weapons charge against him and he would be free to travel next week.

Officer Manny Encarnacion was arrested in March while visiting his wife in New Delhi after Indian airport authorities discovered three bullets he had accidentally packed in his luggage.

The NYPD officer has been out on bail since then but barred from leaving India until the case was resolved.

His lawyer said Saturday that he would approach the court to get Encarnacion's passport released, after which he could leave India.

Samarjit Pattnaik says the officer would likely return home by the end of next week.
