KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Malaysia's defense minister says Flight 370 investigators are working to assess the credibility of a survey company's claim to have found possible plane wreckage in the Bay of Bengal.
Hishammuddin Hussein said Tuesday that China and Australia were aware of the announcement by GeoResonance Pty Ltd.
The company stressed in a statement that a link to the Malaysia Airlines plane missing since March 8 was not certain, but it called for its findings to be investigated.
GeoResonance typically uses remote sensing technology to look for oil, gas and mineral deposits.
It used the same technology to look for chemical elements in aircraft, such as aluminum, titanium and jet fuel residue.
The location it identified is 190 kilometers (118 miles) south of Bangladesh. That's far from where the search has focused.
