Mexican police have found the bodies of five people, including two small children, on a dirt road in the western state of Michoacan.

State police say the 1-month-old, a 2-year-old and three adults found Monday all had been shot. None have been identified.

Police say the bodies were found near the town of Susupuato, which is in on the opposite side of Michoacan from the area where vigilante groups have been fighting against the Knights Templar drug cartel.

An official with the federal Attorney General's Office said Monday that two men arrested by marines Saturday in Mexico City's trendy Condesa neighborhood were middlemen between the Knights Templar and wholesale cocaine traffickers. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss a continuing investigation.
