ATHENS, Greece – Greek police say the head of the financially struggling country's central bank and a prominent TV journalist have been sent threatening letters containing bullets.
They say the letters were signed by a group calling itself "The People's Avengers," but gave no detail of the contents or political alignment.
The one sent to Bank of Greece chief George Provopoulos was intercepted by bank security and handed over to police unopened after a routine scan revealed it contained two bullets. A similar envelope was sent to a journalist working for private Mega TV.
Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras was also mailed a bullet last year.
Greece is struggling through an economic depression after repeatedly imposing deeply resented income cuts and tax hikes to secure vital international bailouts.
