WARSAW, Poland – The Polish and Russian foreign ministers are holding a round of cooperation talks that will also include discussion of Ukraine, which has intensified ties with Russia and shelved a key deal with the European Union.
Russia's Sergey Lavrov and Poland's Radek Sikorski on Thursday are also expected to discuss reports that Russia has deployed state-of-the art Iskander missiles in its western exclave of Kaliningrad, bordering EU and NATO members Poland and Lithuania. President Vladimir Putin dismissed the report, but added that he continues to consider such a move as a possible way of countering the U.S.-led missile defense system in Europe.
The ministers are to sign agreements on economic, scientific and cultural cooperation until the year 2020.
Later Thursday Sikorski is to meet new German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
