BEIRUT – Activists say a rocket has smashed into the home of a family in the embattled Syrian Christian town of Sadad, killing five people.
Rami Abdurrahman from the Britain-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said Sunday it wasn't clear whether the projectile was fired by Syrian soldiers or al-Qaida linked rebels. The two groups have been clashing in the town north of Damascus for the past week.
Abdurrahman said the rocket strike occurred overnight Friday. The Observatory obtains its information from a network of activists on the ground.
Abdurrahman said at least three women were among the dead. He says other residents are trapped in their homes, or have fled to the nearby central city of Homs.
