Russian news reports say three policemen have been killed and four injured by a suicide car bombing in Chechnya.

The reports, citing the regional Interior Ministry, say the bombing occurred before dawn Monday at the police station in the village of Sernovodsk.

The reports say the car was spotted speeding toward the station and that it exploded after police raised a barrier at the perimeter of the station.

Separatist rebels fought two full-scale wars with Russian troops in Chechnya over the past 20 years. Although the insurgency has been largely suppressed, sporadic attacks persist.
