Yahoo was the most visited web site in the United States in July, topping Google for the first time in more than two years, according to Comscore.
Yahoo received 196.6 million unique visitors in July, compared to 192.3 million for Google, according Comscore's monthly U.S. traffic report of the top 50 web properties. The last time Yahoo claimed the top spot on this coveted list was May 2011.
Comscore rankings are crucial for advertisers and web sites. Web sites that rank high on the list can charge premium prices for ad space, while advertisers look for the largest audiences.
Of the 196.6 million unique visitors, 112 million came to Yahoo via their homepage, according to Comscore data.
It's important to note that Yahoo's July Comscore rankings do not include Tumblr.com, which ranked as the 28th most visited site with its 38.4 million unique visitors. Yahoo purchased Tumblr in May for $1.1 billion.
The ranking is more welcomed news for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. In just a year under Mayer, Yahoo's shares have nearly doubled in value.
