Take a look at the next generation Xbox - the Xbox One - to go on sale later this year as an all in one entertainment console.

Gamers have a new toy to play with.

Microsoft Corp. launched a revamped Xbox 360 that is inspired by the next-generation Xbox One console.

The company unveiled the new Xbox 360 Monday at the Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's vice president of marketing and strategy, says the updated Xbox 360 is "smaller, sleeker and as quiet as ever." Mehdi added it would be available beginning Monday.

Microsoft boasted that hundreds of new games are still coming to Xbox 360, which was originally released eight years ago as the high-definition successor to the Xbox. The gaming console has outsold rivals from Nintendo and Sony for the past two years.

Microsoft debuted the Xbox One console earlier this year at its headquarters in Remond, Wash. It's set for release later this year.

It's been eight years since the launch of the Xbox 360. The original Xbox debuted in 2001, and its high-definition successor premiered in 2005.

Nintendo kicked off the next generation of gaming last November with the launch of the Wii U, the successor to the popular Wii system featuring an innovative tablet-like controller yet graphics on par with the Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3. Yet Nintendo said the console sold just 3.45 million units by the end of March, well below expectations.

Sony was next, teasing plans for its upcoming PlayStation 4 at an event last February in New York. The reaction to that console, which featured richer graphics and more social features, was mixed.

According to Techcrunch, the redesigned Xbox 360 has no spec changes in its new model and it appears that the major improvements are in fan design and cosmetics.
