Police have called off the search for two Australian passengers two days after they were lost overboard from a Carnival Corp. cruise ship off the Australian east coast.

New South Wales state police said in a statement the search using aircraft and ships was called off late Friday after failing to find any sign of the couple.

Paul Rossington, a 30-year-old paramedic, and his 26-year-old girlfriend Kristen Schroder were discovered missing Thursday morning after the Carnival Spirit docked at Sydney's Circular Quay at the end of a 10-day South Pacific cruise.
