SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean President Park Geun-hye's choice for antitrust chief has quit in the latest setback for her conservative government since she took office a month ago.
Han Man-soo withdrew his nomination Monday after an opposition lawmaker raised allegations that he had stashed millions of dollars overseas to avoid taxes.
Han, a lawyer who has worked for major South Korean law firms, hasn't publicly commented on the allegations.
Five other Cabinet picks, including a deputy justice minister, have withdrawn in recent weeks amid fierce opposition that includes claims of corruption.
The withdrawals highlight the sharp political and social divisions in South Korea.
Park is the country's first female president and the daughter of late dictator Park Chung-hee.
She was elected in December and took office late last month.
