Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed a foreign militant in country's northwest near Afghan border.

Three officials say a missile hit the militant as he was riding a horse in the town of Datta Khel in North Waziristan.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, say the nationality of the militant is not yet known.

Washington has been pressing Pakistan to launch a military offensive in the tribal region, which is home to a mix of local and al-Qaida linked foreign militants.

In absence of an offensive, the U.S. mostly relies on missile strike to kill militants.
