Mexican officials say a 2-year-old boy from western Colorado was killed by his babysitter's ex-boyfriend at a vacation home in a Pacific coast resort town.

A family spokesman says Axel Charrette and his 7-year-old brother were being watched by a local woman whose boyfriend entered the home in Sayulita, attacked Axel and threw him in a pool to drown.

The prosecutor's office in the state of Nayarit said Wednesday that the ex-boyfriend had been arrested and charged with rape and murder in the Feb. 28 attack. Prosecutors say the babysitter has been charged with homicide for failing to stop the attack and for lying about it to medical personnel.

Family spokesman Brian Scranton says the Charrettes had been renting the home for about two months.
