In Somali capital, a suicide bomber attacks seaside restaurant, 2nd such restaurant attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A police officer in Somalia's capital says a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the gate to a beachside restaurant.

Police officer Abdi Yasin Hassan said security guards prevented the bomber from entering the restaurant and that he blew himself up at the gate. Hassan said the bomber died in the attack but that he did not immediately know an overall casualty toll.

The bomber attacked a restaurant called Indian Ocean. In mid-February a bomber attacked a restaurant next to Indian Ocean; only the bomber was killed.

Such attacks are typically carried out by the al-Qaida-linked militant group al-Shabab, which was forced out of Mogadishu in late 2011 but still carries out roadside bombings and suicide attacks.
