The joint U.N.-Arab League envoy to Syria has told the Security Council that Syria "is being destroyed bit by bit."

Peace envoy Lakdar Brahimi also told the council Tuesday that the peace process he has been engaged in is at an impasse and "cannot be implemented as it is."

But he says he is not walking away from the process, saying "I am not a quitter."

The president of the Security Council, Pakistan's Ambassador Masood Khan, came out from the closed-door talks to say that Brahimi told the council that in Syria, "The situation is very grim."
