Philippine police say they have arrested a 32-year-old American for alleged possession of 50 million pesos ($1.2 million) worth of illegal drugs.

Senior Supt. Prudencio Tom Banas says police found 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of methamphetamine and a small amount of cocaine when they raided the man's apartment and car in the capital's Makati financial district on Tuesday.

Supt. Leonard Suan of the raiding team says the Los Angeles native will be charged with illegal drug possession, which is punishable by life imprisonment and fines.

Suan said the American has been working in the country as a disc jockey and is suspected of supplying drugs in ritzy bars and parties.
