An NYPD officer accidentally shot and killed a bodega worker early Friday morning outside the store in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, said police.

Cops were responding to a gunpoint robbery at the Natalie grocery store at E. 169th St. and Franklin Ave. at about 2 a.m. when the man was shot.

Three men entered the bodega and barricaded themselves inside, according to the Associated Press. A short time later the worker left the store, trying to flee and was shot dead.

The stand-off with police ended about three hours later, reported the NY Daily News.

An active investigation was underway hours later as police tried to piece together details behind the shooting.

Witnesses told FOX 5 News the shooting victim-- identified by a cousin as Reynaldo Quevas, 20-- was a worker at the store.

A few blocks away, a police officer either responding to reports of a robbery at the store or possibly chasing a car involved in the robbery was seriously injured, said police.

The officer was expected to recover, according to FOX 5 News reporter Robert Moses.

Three people were under arrest.
