Libyan defector Moussa Koussa, the country's former foreign minister, was interviewed Thursday by Scottish police looking to find more information about the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, the BBC reports.
Scottish officials believe Koussa is a source of information on the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people, mostly Americans.
Libya acknowledged responsibility for the terrorist attack in 2003, and opposition leaders have long claimed Koussa was closely involved.
A British man whose daughter died in the bombing said Koussa may be able to shed new light on the attack, which further convinced Scottish authorities to conduct the interview.
Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said that Koussa "may well have important information to reveal which can assist what has always remained a live investigation."
The former foreign minister is the highest ranking member of Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi's regime to quit so far.
