Authorities say they have arrested a German man who may have been planning an attack near Borussia Dortmund's football (soccer) stadium.

The Federal Criminal Police Office said Thursday that officials found three possibly explosive devices near the stadium after questioning the man.

They say they found another three such objects in his apartment, along with a laptop and chemicals.

The 25-year-old German was arrested in Cologne on Tuesday after emailing anonymous tips about planned attacks to authorities.

Authorities say he told police that he had "made up" details of the planned attacks but had placed the devices that officials then found. The police office say his motive is unclear.

It says there appears to have been no "acute danger" to the public.
