A 6-foot-2 inch "selfish bully" has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner's 15-month-old daughter.

Gary Alcock, 28, attacked Violet Mullen when her crying interrupted his fun on an Xbox.

He inflicted "catastrophic" internal injuries on the toddler, including cracked ribs and brain damage.

The attack happened under the nose of the child's 22-year-old mother Claire Flanagan.

But she turned a blind eye because she was desperate to keep her boyfriend Alcock, Manchester Crown Court was told.

Flanagan has been jailed for five years after being cleared of murder but found guilty of causing or allowing the death.

Alcock was told he must serve a minimum of 21 years behind bars.
