Unaware Couple Mocked as 'Infidels' During Wedding Ceremony at Maldives Resort

A couple thought their wedding vows at a luxury Maldives resort were part of a “traditional” Muslim ceremony, but instead they were being mocked and called “infidels” and “swine” by the employees performing the ceremony.

A YouTube video, shows an employee named Hussein Didi conducting the wedding at the Vilu Reef Beach and Spa resort as a 'celebrant' in his native tongue—Dhivehi. The western couple were oblivious to the fact that they were being verbally abused during what they believed to be a spiritual service, because they could not understand the language, reports the Daily Mail U.K.

None of the 10-15 employees present attempted to stop the ceremony as Didi began to recite the Penal Code, “Fornication has been legalized according to Article six, 1.11 of the Penal Code. That is, frequent fornication by homosexuals. Most fornication is by males.”

He continued the ceremony and said, “You are swine. The children that you bear from this marriage will all be bastard swine.” The Daily Mail U.K. reports.

The Vilu Reef beach resort and spa, located on an exclusive island in the Indian Ocean, is advertised as a place where couples can ‘celebrate and capture the special moments of your life and mark a milestone in your amazing journey together or wish to rejoice another year of life’ and costs around $1335 per person.

Unaware of what was really happening, the couple continued along with the events while Didi further insulted them according to the Daily Mail U.K., saying, “Your marriage is not a valid one. You are not the kind of people who can have a valid marriage. One of you is an infidel. The other, too, is an infidel – and we have reason to believe – an atheist, who does not even believe in an infidel religion.”

In a statement, the resort expressed its ‘deep concern and regret’ over the incident and said that the employees have been fired.

A police investigation has been launched into the incident, the Daily Mail U.K. reports.
