A Washington man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for killing a taxi driver in 2013.

Ercell Overton was sentenced Friday in the death of driver Solomon Okoroh of Glenarden, Md.

The 33-year-old Overton had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case. A plea agreement called for him to spend 25 to 28 years in prison.

Prosecutors say police officers were on patrol in Washington's Adams Morgan neighborhood on June 4, 2013, when they heard a gunshot and saw a taxi pass them. As it passed, police officers heard the sound of a second shot. The taxi then hit a parked car. Police say Overton fired at officers before he was captured.
