44 Port Authority officers accused of skipping patrols

Dozens of Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officers have been accused of missing patrols and staying in break rooms while on duty.

The Port Authority said Wednesday its commander was reassigned in November after a review and all 44 dereliction cases are pending. Port Authority inspector general Michael Nestor says the agency will "take significant action" but hasn't specified what that means.

Authorities say video shows several officers spending more than six hours in a break room.

An investigation began in May when an official noticed officers not at their posts. The missed patrols happened mostly on midnight-to-8 a.m. shifts.

The investigation started at the Hoboken (HOH'-boh-kehn) PATH train station and later included the World Trade Center and other stations.
