Cops in Florida’s Ybor City had to work extra hard Thursday night to keep a peaceful protest against Donald Trump’s election from turning into a street brawl when the protesters passed a bar filled with Marines.
Fox 13 Tampa reports that there was a “little bit of back and forth” when the protesters ran into the Marines conducting a pub crawl to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday and raise funds for a local Wounded Warriors group.
Police formed a human barrier in the street as “both sides screamed obscenities and gave each other the middle finger,” WFTS-TV reports.
Chants of “Dump Trump” were drowned out by chants of “U-S-A!” and “you walked into the wrong bar,” the station reported.
WFTS said it also heard from some people who said the protesters need to move on.
“I think they don't really know the issues,” Johnny Gomes told the station. “I think that they are misinformed they followed, sorry, but the regular media and don't know the real story.”
