Four people were killed and another person injured when their car was hit by a train in Poteau, Okla. on Sunday afternoon, Poteau Assistant Police Chief Greg Russell told 40/29 News.
The train did not derail and no one on the Kansas City Southern freight train was injured.
A juvenile was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, 40/29 News reported. Police believe at least three of the five people in the Chevrolet Malibu that was hit were minors. No names were immediately released.
The car was reportedly attempting to cross the train tracks at an intersection that doesn’t have a crossing gate.
The Kansas City Southern ships between the "industrial heartlands of the U.S. and Mexico."
Poteau borders the eastern edge of Oklahoma, near Arkansas. The city is about 130 miles southeast of Tulsa.
