Man pleads guilty in connection with shooting of officers

A man accused of providing a weapon used to kill two Hattiesburg police officers has pleaded guilty to a weapon charge.

Local news outlets report that 23-year-old Jimmy Brady pleaded guilty Monday to the sale of a stolen firearm.

The indictment said Brady stole the gun from his father and unlawfully sold it to Marvin Banks. Twelfth Circuit Court District Attorney Patricia Burchell says Banks used the weapon to kill Hattiesburg police officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate on May 9, 2015.

Banks was arrested on charges including capital murder. He was found unresponsive in jail on Dec. 11, 2015, and later pronounced dead of apparent heart disease.

Brady was arrested on May 15, 2015, and charged with possession of a stolen weapon. He has been sentenced to five years.
