Police: 6 dead, 3 injured in random Michigan shootings

Published February 21, 2016

Associated Press

A man drove around the Kalamazoo, Michigan area shooting people at three locations Saturday evening including a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a Ford dealership, leaving six dead and three injured, two of whom are in critical condition, police said.

A massive manhunt was under way for the suspect, described as an older white male, perhaps in his 50s, driving a dark blue vehicle.

Police said they believe the shootings were random and not targeting particular people.

"We have our worst case scenario," said Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas. "These are random murders."

He said the shootings began about 6 p.m. local time. In addition to the restaurant and the car dealership, the third location was an apartment complex. All of the shootings were in the parking lots.

Kalamazoo is about 160 miles west of Detroit.
