Man pleads guilty to federal charges of conspiring to aid Islamic State group

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

One of four men arrested in New York in February and accused of plotting to join the Islamic State group and wage war against the United States has pleaded guilty.

Federal prosecutors say Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev (ahb-DEWR'-ahl-suhl hah-SAHN'-oh-vich jur-AH'-boh-ehv) on Friday admitted conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Authorities say the 25-year-old posted online threats saying he would kill President Barack Obama in an act of martyrdom. They say he planned to travel to Syria to fight on behalf of the Islamic State and said he would commit terrorist acts in the U.S. if he couldn't leave the country.

Prosecutors say he discussed killing the president or planting a bomb on Coney Island.

The other three men have pleaded not guilty.
