Oral arguments are set to get underway in the case of a man who's appealing his conviction in the 1957 killing of a 7-year-old girl from northern Illinois.

Jack McCullough was sentenced in 2012 to life in prison in the stabbing of Maria Ridulph in the city of Sycamore.

It was one of the oldest unsolved crimes to go to trial in the U.S.

His lawyers say prosecutors relied on fallible recollections of a woman who, as a child decades earlier, had been playing with Ridulph the night she disappeared.

McCullough's attorneys have also questioned a judge's decision to exclude old FBI paperwork as evidence.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1w1UkZc ) that arguments are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Second District Appellate Court in Elgin.
