Promoter cuts ties with mixed martial arts fighter linked to Vegas assault of ex-girlfriend

Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

A company that promotes mixed martial arts says it has cut ties with a fighter who police suspect of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Las Vegas.

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker said Tuesday his company is dissolving a contract with the fighter known as War Machine after hearing about a domestic violence incident that police say occurred on Friday.

Police say they're looking for the 32-year-old fighter whose birth name is Jon Koppenhaver. He's described as the primary suspect in a dispute that left his ex-girlfriend and another person with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

War Machine made his UFC debut in 2007 and has also starred in porn films. The welterweight fighter missed parts of two years of his career because he served time in jail.
